MHMC Receives New Quality-Based Accreditation From DNV Healthcare

As further testament to the hospital’s commitment to quality and patient safety, Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center (MHMC) announced today that is has achieved its initial national accreditation from DNV Healthcare, the only hospital-basedaccreditation program approved by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) which integrates the ISO 9001 Quality Management System with the Medicare Conditions of Participation. The standards require MHMC to regularly evaluate all aspects of patient care and take measured steps towards improvement when warranted.

Patient safety is at the heart of everything we do and our organization is dedicated to implementing initiatives designed to improve the overall quality of care, ” said Lynn McVey, Acting Chief Executive Officer of MHMC. “The ability to integrate ISO 9001 quality standards within our hospital’s clinical and financial processes is a major step forward. DNV hospital accreditation addresses the demands of today’s hospitals dedicated to patient-centered care.”

As part of the accreditation process, DNV surveyors will visit MHMC annually to monitor the hospital’s adherence to patient safety criteria established by CMS, and evaluate processes that impact patient care across various departments and facilities of the hospital.

“It’s a much more holistic system” said McVey. “DNV is a very thorough and collaborative process that helps us uncover opportunities for improvement throughout the organization.It will become a strategic business tool and mechanism to empower our staff, providing additional opportunities to continually enhance the quality and safety we offer our patients.”

DNV accreditation also ensures that MHMC will receive the highest levels of reimbursement for patients covered by Medicare and Medicaid. The DNV accreditation program was authorized by CMS in 2008, and provides both hospital accreditation and Primary Stroke Center certification.Following initial accreditation, in addition to annual inspections, MHMC will have three years to become fully compliant with the ISO 9001in order to maintain the accreditation.
