Most purchasing departments have employees that are familiar with their Purchasing Program and data entry. At Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center, two of our buyers are much more than familiar with Purchasing. One RN and one Surgical Technologist have both worked in Operating Rooms. This is extremely beneficial to our patients because they know the products, have used the products, and know the quality of the items. In addition, they know where we may be able to cut costs.
Most important and foremost on our mind is patient care. Purchasing is the most integral link on our supply chain. Here at Meadowlands, Purchasing is conscience of the needs of less fortunate countries in desperate need of medical equipment and supplies. Meadowlands Purchasing donates all expired, but undamaged products to these countries, most facilities will discard them as medical waste.
Purchasing strives to continue to find ways to eliminate unnecessary spending. In doing so, they have saved the hospital and ultimately the patient, as much money as they can.
