Interns will receive a certificate of attendance at the completion of the program. The program includes:
- Evaluation and education related to assessment skills
- Documentation in the Electronic Medical Record
- Pain Management requirements
- Restraints use and alternatives
- Administration of Blood Transfusions
- Infection Control practices

- Medication administration (includes medication exam and medication clearance for safety practice)
- Review of basic equipment (IV pump, PCA pump, glucometer, compression boots etc)
The perioperative intern will spend two to three weeks on a medical floor to evaluate basic assessment skills, critical thinking skills as well as general nursing knowledge and medication clearance. The intern will rotate thru the PACU, Pre-Op, SDS, and Central Sterile prior to beginning the OR training. Competency is achieved at each level prior to advancement to the next department.
