I was a patient of doctor Eldins last week for a colonoscopy at MHMC. Everyone was so kind to me from the DAR staff to Beth and Danny in Endo.
Later that morning I had to have a procedure in X-Ray, needless to say I was very nervous at this point. Gina Dale (X-Ray Tech) was the best. She guided me through everything. Helped me on the table, to the bathroom as I had a little problem but I couldn’t say enough about Gina and honestly I doubt if I could have made it without Gina as it was a long day for a 75 year old woman. Then she took me to the waiting car. A great employee.

"I just wanted to write a letter regarding a few experiences I have had here at Meadowlands. I cannot say enough about how much I love the privacy factor. As a chronic patient with Kidney disease for over 25 years now, I must say that finding a hospital that makes you feel “at home” as much time as I have spent in the Hospital, is pretty much like locating a leprechaun and then actually taking his pot of gold. Meadowlands is that kind of magic to me.
Since being re-diagnosed with renal failure (after 8 years without a transplant), I have spent more than 13 of the last 16 months between here and Hoboken. If my vascular surgeon was here as well, I wouldn’t ever step foot in any other Hospital again. I love that despite the fact that the majority of the area hospitals charge $6.50 a day for TV service and $5.50 a day for phone (even to get incoming calls), that this hospital and the Staff are more concerned with the patients comfort than an extra quick buck. Small things like this really do add up. Last 16 months alone would have put me $4,644 out of pocket just to keep from being bored.
Next I would like to speak to the staff. When I am at Meadowlands, I feel like I am at home but with an extra 25 Moms a day who are happy to keep me company or cater to my every need. I cannot stress how important that is to keeping my sanity, with a Mother who lives so far away. Despite 2 major issues, I still would and do recommend this Hospital to friends and family.
There are a few people here that go even further (Heels over Head) to make sure things go right.
First, your Patient Representative Karol! She is just wonderful. I cannot remember a weekday I have spent here without her at least coming to say: “How are you?” However long or brief an amount of time she is able to spend with me, it is ALWAYS a (if not the) bright spot of my day. You can truly tell she not only cares for the patients here, but she also loves her job. It is an amazing thing to see and experience these days. Karol is just so very happy all of the time and it is infectious. She also listens, like really listens, and then tries her best to find things patients might want to do (like crosswords, which I LOVE) and gets that for them, where possible. Karol truly is an amazing spirit and I hope she is here as long as I ever have to be, because if or when the time comes, my opinion is that her shoes will be impossible to fill.
Secondly, I want to mention the Head Would Care Nurse, Joseph Del Duca. Not only were my Mother and I overly impressed with his handling of a situation (which could have become MUCH worse or more ugly), we were also impressed with his articulation on the importance of the matter. It was as if he didn’t even have to think, he just naturally gravitated to doing the RIGHT THING FOR HIS PATIENT. I stress “HIS” because once he crossed the threshold of my bedroom door it was obvious I was now his patient, rather than his problem or mess to clean up. Once again, I can only say I hope I am not sick when he retires or if ever he leaves, because he is another key piece to what makes Meadowlands stand out; feel like home.
Not only did Joe handle the situation, he even called to see how I was progressing and when, readmitted was the first to come through the door first thing after arriving in the Morning. That is what I call dedication.
Your staff (despite the rare exception) is truly one that should be cherished and treated like gold because something they are doing, make that everything they are doing, seems to be right. Although I am not that happy that I had to be readmitted for treatment from something a staff member here did (she is gone now) and will have additional bills to pay, 20% co-pay, Joe, Karol, the staff in ICU/CCU, telemetry and Med-Surg floors make being here so much easier to swallow.
Even the outsourced people (like the dialysis team) that comes here, has found a way to mesh with the daily staff (again with the rare exception) to do what is best for us, the patients.
Lastly, down to the lax hours for visitation and the free food to family visiting, I find it hard to complain about much.
Thank you for giving your staff a different situation then the norm. I truly believe it is the A-typicalness of this hospital that allows the staff to pass that comfort on to patients like myself who will always keep coming back, and not just because we have to. In fact, I like it so much when I get a Kidney, I would like to work here too.
From my Doctors and Nurses, Triage, CNA, Dietary, Hospitality and so on – I appreciate ALL of you. Besides the one woman who was let go, I cannot think of another person here who doesn’t make me smile.

"Dear Meadowlands Hospital Team, I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for the exceptional care and the incredible kindness I've received while here. I'm so impressed with the level of dedication, humanism and compassion by literally everyone that I've met here. I can honestly say that I have never experienced any thing like this in my life. Over the years I've been hospitalized many times, in many places and have had loved ones hospitalized countless times. While I have seen wonderful dedicated healthcare providers over the years, unfortunately I have also seen uncaring treatment as well.
We are living in harsh financial times, where the healthcare system has been especially hard hit. Increasingly, we see funding cuts, staffing cuts and shortages in the healthcare system. This makes the work of providing quality care on daily basis even more challenging and frustrating. It is easy to fall into hopeless and become desensitized to human suffering when facing such a challenging work environment on a daily basis. When I came to the hospital I was in terrible physical pain and feared getting a terrible prognosis. I'm a patient in room 386 and I just wanted to write a brief note
thanking you and your team for your great work. I have a chronic
medical conditions and have been hospitalized in many hospitals over
the years.
I was especially impressed today by two of your employees, Rosa and
Paula. Both cleaned my room on separate days. both women greeting me
warmly and introduced themselves. Paula greeted me as though I was a
long lost friend, she was bubbly and encouraging. I was in pain and
she called a nurse to see me after she cleaned the other patient
rooms, she came back to peek in and see how i was her warmth
and sensivitity helped me so much. Paula's bright cheerful smile and
her casual kind words were so comforting what's more I observed her
relate in the same way to the other patients. Rosa had a cheerful and
friendly demeanor and offered to help if I needed anything. She asked
how I was feeling and was very caring. Rosa had a sweet and caring
disposition Both took special care and thoroughly cleaned the room. I
could see how meticulous and detail oriented they both were and how
aware they were of me and clearly showed a sincere concern for my
comfort and well being. They could have easily come in quietly
cleaned and left the way I see done in most other hospitals. I can
only imagine how busy they are and how many patients they see, not to
mention how challenging it is to clean hospital rooms. I'm so amazed
that they took such care to extend such kindness. It's very rare. I
have a disease that causes high levels of pain and suffer being away
from my family. Rosa's and Paula's warmth and friendliness helped me
and many patients through a difficult time.

"Hello Pedro,
You helped me last Sunday when I came to the ER. I just wanted to
drop you a quick line to thank you for helping me through a difficult
time.
I was especially frightened and felt alone when came into the ER. The Friday before my doctor diagnosed the lymphedma for the first time. What you didn't know was that for years I've lived with a chronic disabling condition that limits my ability to walk and stand for any long period of time so I struggled to overcome that obstacle and learned how to adapt and create a successful life despite this condition – maybe even determine to become even more successful because of it. I realize now that I was so concerned with being stronger than my condition that I neglected my health and didn't take the swelling seriously. Much of my work involves writing and using my hands and so do most of my hobbies. Over time, the swelling became excruciating and I couldn't move my fingers. When I got the diagnosis I feared permanently losing use of my hand. When I came in to the ER all I could think about was losing use of my hands (after resigning myself to having limited ability in my feet) and facing yet another disabling condition. I go to the ER often, maybe twice per month for my cysts, but this time was different. I wasn't simply in physical pain. I felt deeply alone and felt profound grief and despair. It's almost as though you sensed I was struggling and you came directly to me to check in and it was pretty obvious you were on a mission to cheer me up. You made a few jokes playfully taught me how to use my own phone and lightened the situation. what's more you kept coming over to offer support. You were so bright and encouraging and your laughter and playfulness was truly contagious. Pedro, I am so grateful for what you did that day. No doubt you see hundreds of patients and your work is extremely demanding. I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your kindness and compassion you really helped me through a scarey moment. "I need to let you know what happened to my uncle before we found Meadowlands Hospital. My uncle Peter Korotky became very ill on October 31, 2011. He was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic. He then had to have partial lung removal he was in ICU on intubated ventilator for eleven days. Then he had the Tracheotomy. After 35 days or so he had to go to a different hospital due to insurance. He then was put in Kindred Care in Wayne. He could not get off the ventilator while he was there and had an infection a couple of times. After 35 days or so he had to move again I was misinformed about where he could go. I was told there were only 17 places that would take him on the ventilator (which there are dozens in N.J. I was unaware of). My uncle then moved to Lakeview Nursing Home. The care was terrible he was dirty acting delusional, when the nurse was told something is wrong she said “This was her first time having him and she did not know if his behavior was normal” my wife and I told them something was wrong. On the third day he was rushed by ambulance to emergency room at St Joseph’s Hospital in Wayne. He had three bed sores, pneumonia, a very high fever and not clean. When I was told he had to be discharged I was not sending him back to Lakeview, someone told me about Meadowlands Hospital. After the last experience I had to go see the hospital for myself. I went to go see the Meadowlands Hospital and when I got off the elevator I made a wrong turn and ended up in Glen Hadinoto’s office.That was the best wrong turn I ever made. He was so nice and so compassionate. He listened to me tell him everything my uncle had been through and he even got choked up listening. I could not believe how clean the Hospital was, how pleasant everyone was. After my uncle was admitted to the Meadowlands Hospital I was even more impressed at the sterilization of the room and that you had to wear gown, gloves, mask and it was a secluded area for patients on ventilators, no other facility that he was in did that. In the other facilities rooms were opened where all people could pass by and also had a roommate with their family members coming in and out. Also, staff members were touching him did not wear gloves all the time which is why I believe he could not get better. Meadowlands Hospital is so clean I can’t say it enough. This is the only hospital that has taken such good care of my uncle by keeping him clean by keeping him in a sterile area but most of all they are the only facility to get him off the ventilator and as well as the nurses the Respiratory Therapists are great. My uncle is now breathing on his own. He still has to be able to swallow but I am confident that the staff at the Meadowlands Hospital will be able to get him to swallow.
