"At Meadowlands Hospital we strive for quality of service and patient safety, " says Afif Eschie, Central Sterile Processing Manager. "This is why my team and I chose to go above and beyond to provide our patients with Every Load Biological Monitoring on all surgical instruments that are processed in our Central Sterilization Department. This monitoring uses particular bacteria in a test tube that we can place with each of our loads. This can then be incubated to ensure negative or no growth results."

AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation) guidelines state that the minimum requirement for load monitoring is once weekly. Although this is an extra expense for us, we would rather pay a little extra to keep our patients as safe as possible and provide top quality service. 3M, a company that delivers quality sterilization products as well as many other products presented us with a plaque in recognition of providing the highest standard of care.

MHMC wants to provide up to date technology for both our patients and staff. We have purchased several new products to provide the best service and surgical outcome to all of our patients. These new items help the surgical team in protecting our patients and staff.

The Stryker Neptune Waste Management System is a fluid management and smoke evacuation system with virtually no exposure to healthcare workers and patients. It holds up to 24 liters of fluid and can suction fluids and smoke simultaneously. It can also hold up to 4 – 3000cc bags on an electronic IV pole.

Our new Stryker System 6 Power System is one of the strongest drill systems available on the market. They are heavy duty, lightweight, ergonomic, and best of all, battery operated. The old corded or hosed system has the possibility of getting contaminated if not secured properly. Our new cordless system removes that from the equation. This also give our surgeons increased mobility for those precise cuts.

The Stryker T5 Personal Protection System is used by our orthopedic team to provide the best protection to both our patients and staff. This helmet is light, air cooled and battery operated to decrease fatigue and increase mobility during total joint procedures.

The Stryker 1288HD Camera System is the newest technology available. It is a 3-chip camera that features 1920 x 1080p resolution. This, in conjunction with our new Stryker Ideal Eyes HD Telescopes and 26" HD Monitors, provide the most clarity, focus and sharpness during any endoscopic procedure.
